Keith Forrester was born in Atlanta Georgia to a working class family. His love for music started with listening to his dad, who was a jazz and rock musician, play guitar and piano. At the age of eight he began his own experimentation on a very poorly made classical guitar that, for reasons unknown, had steel strings on it and ridiculously high action. Keith’s formative years involved a lot of time listening to old 45’s (or “funny records” as his dad called them) of Louis Armstrong and Hank Williams along with a horde of 33’s of The Ventures, Chet Atkins, Jeff Beck, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, and Lynyrd Skynyrd to name a few.  Living in Bible Belt country, Keith was raised in charismatic churches that preached in every style short of snake-handling. He became quickly disillusioned with these churches as a teenager and eventually forsook their hell fire and brimstone dogmas as a young adult.  After the release of two solo steel string instrumental albums in the American Primitive style Keith was encouraged to record a vocal album by his best friend who had noticed him singing during a group picking session in a cabin in Alabama.  Subsequently Little Horn was born and the bare bones “Such Pretty Houses” was recorded.  Struggles with the lingering haunts of peculiar religious doctrines as well as personal experiences with joy and sorrow are the main emotional drivers behind Little Horn and the musical style is a shimmering southern-style gothic folk.  Recording for the next Little Horn album will begin sometime in the fall/winter of 2010.  Keep your eye out.

Albums are full of tough decisions. How many songs? How should we put it out? Which leather pants should we wear for the cover shoot? We’re almost done with ours, but there’s still just a few of these important decisions to make.
I can tell you that we’re calling it Golden Gray and we’re very happy with it. A funny thing happened in the making where the songs started becoming things we never intended, so we had to adapt to them. Usually it’s the other way around I think? We’re planning for the next one already and how we’ll be applying everything we learned.
Anyway, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Our record will be out in the fall. And there will indeed be shows and parties coinciding. Dear friends, we’ll see you there!

Duchess Leo is currently at Metaltern Studios in Alabama completing their debut record. Pictured above are the band with the wonderful Whitt Family, Grace Bellury of Lille and Keith Forrester of Little Horn. Keith and Grace have both contributed to the record. Daniel Whitt has been recording the band, as well as contributing drums and being what could best be described as a co-producer, or BFF. The album will arrive in the late summer so stay tuned!

Lille is 18 year old singer/songwriter Grace Bellury, set to release Tall Shoulders June 22, 2010.  Pronounced “Leel”, and named for the town in France, the record is full of haunting vocals, clever lyrics, and melancholy ukelele.  Whaleheart Records’ newest artist, Grace is already making waves in the Atlanta music scene. Her next show is 05.20 at The Drunken Unicorn (Atlanta, GA) w/ Little Horn. Don’t miss it!
